Thanks a lot to heroic bobbigmac for his titanical linguo-statistic-research-analitic work. I can said I've read in one of serious places (can't remember which exactly) the same thing concerning Fotolia - for their search just 7 first words has great value. Other 73 (Fotolia permits up to 80) can follow but doesn't make the game. And, thank to Lord Fotolia give contributor a lucky chance to change the order of keywords at any time after acceptance. I use it for pictures uploaded before this great knowledge.

Thanks, Bob, that helps a lot!  I hadn't realised about the title being so important, but it's definitely food for thought - I'll be paying a lot more attention to the wording of my titles from now on.

I don't tend to use phrases very much in the keywords (maybe that should change too).  I know that on some sites (Shutterstock for example) any phrases get automatically broken up into separate words and then rearranged, unless they're enclosed in double quotes.  Unfortunately, as I understand it, phrases in double quotes only show up in search results if the buyer has entered the quotes characters in the search box - which I'm not convinced would happen very often, because I think most people tend to type phrases as separate words.  Any thoughts on this?

I'm inclined to agree, seperate words are better than "word phrases", though i'd guess on fotolia at least the ordering will have an effect on the match score, eg: open flower, rather than flower open is probably higher rated. THough I'm guessing, it's certainly how i'd have coded it.

I might be stupid-blind but where can I see on your site how many times somebody searched in which time for which word? For example:

Search Term: business woman
Searches: xyz searches for business woman in the last xyz days

Unfortunatly we don't have that stat to print, we can say how many times people have searche don our site for a term, but not on the providers site, sadly the api doesn't make that kind of info available. I'd like to get something like that setup, but the providers are somewhat resistant to our requests for more information given that we publish market data which they themselves don't.
