"...as of July 30 we will no longer offer opt-in/out, and as of August 4 all SXP images will be included in our PPD, partner and licensing, extended licensing, and subscription efforts."

This doesn't affect me, because I was opted into everything anyway, but I know some people have strong opinions on subscription v single image downloads.

Any comments?

A lot of people opt-ed out, that affected their sales and the happiness of their customers, so they force everybody to opt-in or to close their accounts. I guess the number of people that actually remove their portfolio because of this will be tiny. As much as I can understand this decision from their point of view, I don't find it is fair towards their image suppliers. The other thing is also that SXP doesn't provide the amount of sales Shutterstock does. I wonder how this one will end? SY

We'll just have to wait and see - at the end of the day, a few sales are better than none!

It seems there is more behind this decision of SXP to force opt-in all portfolios:

Stockxpert Forum

Summary:

-As of July 30 SXP will no longer offer opt-in/out, and as of August 4 all SXP images will be included in their PPD, partner and licensing, extended licensing, and subscription efforts.

- One of the mentioned partners is http://www.photos.com (owned, like, SXP, by Jupiter) and they will sell them with, what is in microstock terms, an extended license. And yes, the contributor gets a generous re-numeration of $0.30 for this kind of EL sale!

I think, I wait a bit longer before I play again with the thought of joining SXP! SY

Yeah, I doubt if the people that opted in opted in for this!

Judging by the replies on the SXP forum, a lot of people aren't happy and are already threatening to leave.  I'm still sitting on the fence on this one - the sales from my small portfolio on SXP are slow, but they do get a wee boost from time to time.  I may decide not to upload any more for a while until this settles down, but would deleting all my images on a point of principle be like cutting off my nose to spite my face?

But if SXP goes ahead, and at the moment it looks like they will, it could affect EL sales on other sites badly. Why should a buyer pay $$$ on one site if s/he can get the same image license for cents? SY

Here some facts:

1 month subscription at photos.com $99.95
You are allowed to download up to 250 images/ day
From the FAQ: "How may I use Photos.com images? You may use our royalty-free photos for: ... products, including those intended for sale."

I feel really tempted to get a month's subscription, download all what I can grap and what looks nice and put it on re-sale products on CafePress and Zazzle, what do you think? Oh, yes, the contributor gets a generous share of $0.30/ dl of this, sounds fair? Not to me! SY

This is so weird that I'm not even sure I correctly understand what's happening.

I just went into my SXP Account Profile, and have Extended Licenses checked YES, Subscription on SXP checked YES, and Partner Licensing checked NO.

But, based on the earlier posts on this thread, it sounds like it doesn't matter what I've checked for Partner Licensing starting tomorrow (July30).

I need this spelled out for me:

Is there any setting I can choose on my SXP Profile - before tomorrow!!! - so that starting Aug. 4, they cannot let partners sell EL's of my images that I'll earn 30 cents for?

If I cannot prevent them from selling ELs for my images for commission of 30 cents, then, clearly, I have to get my small portfolio off the site, ASAP. - ann

http://www.stockxpert.com/forum.phtml?f=showtopic&n=15291

Time is of the essence, and I urge anyone on SXP to look into this ASAP.

You can participate in a CONFERENCE CALL this Thursday at 2pm Eastern Timeby sending email to:

skapsinow@stockxpert.com

put this is subject line: SXP/Photos.com Town Hall

include your SXP user name, briefly state your concert, and request to participate in conference call.

You'll then get an email with phone number and passcode. I already did.

Easy answer: NO! They basically hijacked all portfolios like somebody put it so nicely on their forums. Ann, can you please, please, please keep us informed how the conference call goes, be our "forum ear" so to speak? SY

Aaack! I can't believe the timing - My brother's family's here for summer visit, and I just found out they have tix for everyone to a show starting 1:3O, Thursday. So, someone else is going to have to be the forum's ear.

BTW, when I wrote the email asking for number & code, I also mentioned that it would be important to have transcript of what was said for those who couldn't make it, and it sounds like an overview of what's diiscussed will go on SXP site.

So you can participate in the SXP CONFERENCE CALL this Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 2 PM Eastern STandard Time by sending email to:

skapsinow@stockxpert.com

put this is subject line: SXP/Photos.com Town Hall

include your SXP user name, briefly state your concerns, and request to participate in conference call.

You'll then get an email with phone number and passcode.
